The Garden of God
The garden of God is our world in his eye,
a vision of wonder and mystery:
a stage he once crafted and coloured, and why?
to fashion a land for his children to see.
The vision of God is a bird in the air
surveying the field from on high;
its song is the sigh of his Spirit of care
questing why all such beauty decay.
The presence of God is the fruit on the tree
biding the time till the day
when its colour is full and its sweetness will be
as intended at dawn’s brightening ray.
The justice of God is the depth of the seas
as intense as the ink of the squid:
the mercy of God is the dust on the breeze
which settles on sinner and saint.
The face of our God is the wind in the tree
his name is the Ancient of Days:
he walks with us now - both with you and with me -
when we stumble he holds out his hand.
