In deepest darkest night
(The Nativity of the Lord)In deepest darkest night
1
In darkest, deepest night
comes my Saviour to my side.
He leaves his heav'nly home,
on this earth to reside,
that he might save me.
2
Upon his manger throne
lays he all his glory down.
Amidst the hay and straw
wears no bejewelled crown,
that he might help me.
3
This child, he brings good cheer
through the darkest night of year.
Alone he bears the cost
to rid me of all fear,
for that he loves me.
4
This night breaks out in joy
for the Christ is come to share
my anxious thoughts and fears,
yet lies he helpless there,
that I might love him.
5
As darkness turns to light,
so my joy becomes complete.
I pledge my all
to honour God in manger stall,
thus to adore him.
